Martin Luther King Jr’s dream is now a nightmare
By Kevin Glancy – October 2018
In his landmark speech presented at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC in 1963, the late, Martin Luther King Jr pleaded with America. ‘I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin, but by the content of their character.’
At the time he was fighting for freedom and equality on behalf of his fellow black Americans and those conscious of their struggle, particularly liberal minded US Democrats, applauded his words. As a conservative in Australia, I certainly did but how times have changed. Changed by the very people on the left side of the political fence who supported those words and who have clearly forgotten their meaning and intent.
His dream has become a nightmare in this era of identity politics where people are no longer assessed by their character or on merit. Instead they are to be judged, promoted, praised, defended or condemned based on their colour, gender, country of origin or even, their political leaning.
With the dominant left leaning media if you’re a conservative with a public profile you can expect derision and assorted labels such as homophobe, redneck, deplorable, sexist, misogynist, extremist, hard-right, alt-right and even marked as some kind of Nazi.
Facts are disregarded and for the most part, journalistic integrity is non-existent. It’s a murky, narrow minded western world in which double standards, hypocrisy, quotas, affirmative action and virtue signalling reign supreme. History will look back at a time when the world lost its way. Dragged by those on the left with little real resistance into socialism and ultimate despair as we’ve seen so many times before on the eastern side of the planet.
Those who demanded tolerance have now become the intolerant. Alternative opinions silenced or crushed by name calling and bullying at the hands of the twittering socialist class. Then there’s the right to present a different view denied by the Human Rights Commission. Here is a group, funded by Australian taxpayers, who think that laws can change the way people think. If that was the case then we’d all be driving under the speed limit and there would be no need for a police force or courts. Worse! Rather than expand our human rights, they are determined like their unelected cousins in the UN to restrict our rights. In particular; the right to be a free-thinking individual.
Our supreme strength as a human being is the power of free-will; the freedom of individual thought and action that is under the greatest threat. It’s that beating heart that fires inspiration and defies consensus and group-think. You can remind yourself of its brilliance every time you switch on the lights. It turns night into day; an example of the extraordinary power of unfettered, individual thought that has created so much to improve our lives.
Only fools believe science is about consensus and by doing so they deny why our path is littered with the fruits of our unique technological history. It’s always been about one person who had a dream and ignored the shushing of the crowd to make the impossible, possible.
Every step we take towards socialism erodes that power of individual freewill; the ability to make a choice and to take responsibility for our own lives. No one on the planet has the right to take that away and definitely not the unelected Marxist bureaucrats in the UN, aided and abetted by our own traitorous government.
In western nations feminists declare a gender war and talk of empowerment but demand a helping hand to achieve their aims. Forget the need for merit. They do not seek equality but superiority. More woman on boards they shout. Why stop there? Women should run companies. But oh! That means they might have to take risks and create their own businesses just like the men did. Ah! But that’s no good – too hard! We just want to be on top without having to climb up there. It begs the questions; how is that empowering? Will they win our respect for cheating? How does that make them equal?
The brave Tina McQueen, Liberal (conservative) Vice President puts it best. “Women always want the spoils of victory, without the fight.”
A woman used to run our country. Affirmative action through Emily’s List took Julia Gillard to the top. How did that work out? In Australia we have an ABC television/radio board dominated by women, how’s that looking?
The western world has become a tribal zone where buzz words like diversity, inclusion and unconscious bias in reality, highlight and harbour the very practice of outright discrimination, racism, tokenism and symbolism. These are the days when corporate and public service human resource entities preclude white Anglo/Celtic males from much consideration at all. For the most part they are considered by the Left to be privileged; regularly stereotyped as violent, sexist and responsible for all the global ills.
Forget that white males, not precluding those of colour, put their lives on the line to defend western freedom and democracy; that their labouring toil is evident wherever you look. Forget that in the US it was a bunch of white, conservative Republicans males that fought to abolish slavery in the face of ‘Democrat party’ opposition.
Instead, let’s ignore that we are all individuals. To be assessed, not on our strength of character, as Martin Luther King boldly dreamed but on the tribe we find ourselves in. Deemed to be insiders or outsiders of which I am definitely of the latter and proud of it. I want no part in this insanity and when the cloud of depression wraps me in a fog I seek solace and sanity from the likes of Andrew Bolt, Peta Credlin, Paul Murray and my favourites, Rowan Dean and Ross Cameron on the Sky News ‘Outsiders’ television programme. Trouble is, they too are conservatives and are under constant attack from the usual lefty suspects. It’s a culture war out there. Make no mistake about it and the enemy should not be underestimated.
You can keep this fraudulent world where the religion of climate change and global warming must be embraced without honest debate or question. Where billions and trillions are spent in blind ignorance of the facts that continually deny the existence of its predicted, apocalyptic peril. It’s a hoax that is no different than that Nigerian phone call and the scam that follows yet, the so called intelligentsia including our major party politicians swallow it whole, hook, line and sinker.
Where is the hope when our political leaders in Australia are such fools who would sign any piece of paper that the UN puts in front of them? Throwing away our sovereignty under the Paris Agreement or the Global Migration Compact and putting our country’s future prosperity and welfare at grave risk. I’ve never voted for that. Who did? Where is their democratic mandate?
In our universities, western civilisation is to be ashamed of yet, despite its many sins it has brought so much good into this world. Without its democracy and progress, those who criticise would not have the freedom to do so; nor the universities they use to preach from at our expense.
Christianity is to be damned and the world of Islam and its extremes to be held unaccountable for its shocking brutality. Women treated as second class citizens, forced to cover up, unable to drive, to be educated or to publicly air an opinion. Homosexuals thrown off roof tops, while feminists and those on the left look the other way and remain cowardly silent. Let’s condemn Christians! A much weaker target and we won’t have to worry about them cutting off our heads or blowing us to smithereens.
The tragedy of identity politics is that it removes accountability for ones actions and the pursuit of supposed equality becomes a fraud. Yet, judgements made solely on the basis of character and merit personify equality. As Martin Luther King knew, such criteria eliminates colour, gender and race from the equation and are the only true test when feeling equal relies solely on achieving genuine mutual respect. It cannot be legislated or socially engineered.
The opportunity to present yourself should be the only criteria. The counterproductive, politically correct attempts that prevail are merely artificial and based on the false assumption that mutual respect can be granted and does not need to be earned. What utter divisive rubbish!
Yet so many in the executive corporate sector naively subscribe to this nonsense. Through their human resource activities they’ve discarded merit in exchange for mediocrity. Awarding jobs and promotion for people based on their colour or gender. They’ve opened their corridors to socialism. An ideology that can’t possibly exist alongside capitalism where the need for excellence and profit is paramount. The creation of much needed employment and job security depends on it. These corporate fools will soon rue the day when they discover that it’s too late to turn back and profits are plunging. As the great Margaret Thatcher, a lady who had no time for identity politics said. ‘The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.’
This is the corporate stupidity that currently prevails in a nut shell. Consider your favourite sporting team like a business. Competition requires that you field your best much like a business should. However, new legislation mirrors corporate virtue signalling. It now demands that the team selection process should be devoid of merit but based on quotas. Your team must now include a certain number of racial types and females regardless of ability.
How will that affect your team’s performance? Will they be competitive and make the final when you have to exclude the better players? Will those new token members be respected in the knowledge that they did not gain selection on merit? Yet this is the nonsense that runs rife throughout the western world; throughout our institutions, sporting codes, in politics and along the corporate corridors. When will we all wake up and do away with this obscene madness?
Like Martin Luther King Jr, I still have a dream…
